Tick Fever in Dogs: Signs Every Pet Parent in Navi Mumbai Should Know
Tick fever is a common name for blood infections spread by ticks, such as ehrlichiosis and babesiosis. Ticks are found across Navi Mumbai all year, and especially after the rains, so every dog owner should know what to look out for.
Early warning signs
Fever, low energy or sleeping more than usual
Loss of appetite
Pale gums
Nosebleeds, or small red spots on the gums or belly
Dark or reddish urine
Weight loss or swollen lymph nodes
Signs can be mild at first and get worse over days or weeks. If you notice any of them, especially after finding ticks on your dog, see a vet promptly. A simple blood test can confirm the infection, and early treatment makes a big difference.
How to protect your dog
Use a vet-recommended tick preventive every month, all year round.
Check your dog's ears, neck, armpits and paws after every walk.
Keep bedding clean and treat the home if you find ticks indoors.
Avoid long grass and bushes during walks where possible.
Do not wait it out
Tick fever can damage the blood, kidneys and liver if left untreated. If your dog seems unwell, it is always better to get checked early.
