Care Sheet: Your New Kitten

Kittens are curious and fragile. This care sheet covers the basics for their first months with you.

Setting up home

• Provide a litter tray in a quiet spot, away from food and water.

• Give a scratching post, a cosy bed and a few safe toys.

• Secure windows and balconies with netting. Falls are a common kitten injury in apartments.

Feeding

• Feed a complete kitten food, in small meals 3 to 4 times a day.

• Fresh water should always be available. Cow's milk often upsets kittens' stomachs.

• Never give onion, garlic, chocolate, grapes or cooked bones.

Health

• Book a first vet check-up soon after adoption.

• Follow your vet's vaccination and deworming schedule.

• Ask us about the right time to spay or neuter.

Watch for

• Sneezing, runny eyes or nose

• Diarrhoea or vomiting

• Not eating, or hiding and unusually quiet

Kittens can become unwell quickly, so contact a vet early if you notice these signs.
